Where do you start...
We have all inherited special things; they have a past but we are not sure what's in their future, Things we love but do not use, things we treasure but do not need, things that made personal statements but were not ours. They hang in the backs of our closets, they are neatly tucked away in our drawers, they are stowed away in boxes under our stairs. Occasionally, they become the topic of conversation, we take them out, share their memories and inevitably return them to their holding places.
Our loved ones encourage us to let them go, donate, purge... hoping that in their absence, our sorrow will soften. But, you can't let go... Maybe it's dad's old leather chaps and his riding spurs; the smell of their leather and the sound of their jingle ignite a flood of cherished childhood memories, or Grandma's handstitched needlepoint made with love in the box with the military uniform grandpa wore with pride during a time we can only imagine or maybe it's mom's favorite jacket, and a purse she once carried...keepsakes from the woman you adored...Not things" but touchable pieces of our past that spark old memories, soothe broken hearts and keep us connected to a love we never want to forget.
If this is someting you can relate to; breathe deep, close your eyes, hang on to the "stuff" that preserves those memories and when the time is right... call me, tell me their story; together we will take those things and give them a new purpose.... One that honors their past by carrying them into the future.
